Starting the Propane Fridge in the Shed
The generator shed has a propane fridge. It's a backup, and the place to keep perishables in case the solar shuts off and the electric fridge in the cabin goes warm.

Before you start
- The propane tanks outside need to be on.
Step by step
4 steps
Turn the blue gas valve parallel to the copper line
Behind the fridge, turn the blue valve so the handle runs parallel to the copper gas line. Parallel means gas is flowing.

Turn the knob at the bottom to GAS
Along the bottom of the fridge, turn the fuel knob from OFF to GAS. The thermostat has been kept at about 5; adjust it however you like.

Hold the right button and press the igniter
Hold in the right-hand button and press the igniter (the little explosion symbol) over and over until the pilot lights.

Listen for the flame
You'll hear the flame when it catches. Check back in a couple of hours to make sure the fridge is getting cold.
Shutting it down for the season
- Turn the knob at the bottom to OFF.
- Turn the blue valve so it's perpendicular to the copper line (closed).
- Leave the door ajar all winter so it doesn't get moldy. There's a ball that props it open; it doesn't work great, so anything that keeps the door open is fine.
